12 Make the bag handles. From the co-ordinating solid fabric, cut four 2” (5cm) strips, each 44” (111.8cm) in length. Cut two strips of medium-weight fusible interfacing to the same size, and interface two of the fabric strips (see Techniques, here).

13 Place one interfaced strip right side to right side with a fabric strip and sew around three sides with a ¼” (6mm) seam, leaving one short end open. Turn to the right side and press. Make two in the same way.

14 Lay one bag handle on the main bag piece, starting at the bottom edge and layering the inner handle edge ½” (13mm) over the tacked pocket edges. Repeat on the other side of the same pocket. Top stitch the handle in place on either side of the pocket. Sew a ‘box’ on the handle, at the top of the plate pocket to reinforce this ‘stress’ area (see Techniques, here). You can also top stitch the rest of the handle at this point. Repeat on the other main bag piece with the second handle.
